Visiting Bessie May's Quilt Supplies

Quilting being another hobby of mine made it an easy pick for my shop dollshouse.
The name comes from my grandmother Bessie May who passed away in 1971. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidering for most of her life.

The shop has 2 floors and an attic bedroom and toilett.
The 1st or ground floor contains the shop with quilting supplies galore, office corner and a quilt on frame.

The 2nd floor is the sitting room with black accessories & kitchen nook. The black is a little out of my comfort zone, but I had to try it as the sofa pattern included black. The copper stovehood is the result of a course I taught at the Craft Retreat one year. Copper & metal work is a favorite technique I often use in my multimedia and scrapbooking projects.

The miniature water colour on wall by the stove is an original by A.Midttun.

The attic bedroom has a blue colour theme and is enjoyed as a chilling out place for a football interested girl.

Miniature in Tune 2013

A dream came true this July........a whole week in Denmark at Tune enjoying miniature bookbinding & blind & gold tooling course, with a wonderful teacher Tine Krijnen, good friends with a common interest, fabulous food,sunny weather and a lovely place. A must again next year.

My choice was a 3day course & a 2 day course in bookbinding and blind and gold tooling of bookcovers with Tine Krijnen from Netherlands. We enjoyed wonderful days with her as a teacher. She was well prepared and a professional with good humour. She walked us through the steps with ease. I came away with a good solid basic knowledge for working on my owe making bookblocks, binding books and tooling the covers. It was a very interesting learning curve for me.

A Year has gone by....................

In a couple of days a year will have passed since I posted last.

Kits, courses, a Christmas theme roombox, Peddler Lady roombox, Dollshouse treff group, KDF 2012, Miniatura 2013 and a week at Tune in Denmark have made this a busy year for me.

My interest is a mixture of 1:12 scale miniatures/ dollshouses/roomboxes, & 1:48 scale miniatures/ dollshouses.

These kits are fun to make but one has to be very gentle as they are fragile,being so small in scale.

To My Surprise.......................

Dollshouse Hobbyroom Workbench

Being at the cabin, my DHMS was a day late coming to me.

To my surprise and staring at me on pg. 12 in Sept. issue,

was the JH's Kit that I had finished a couple of weeks ago.

My workbench will go in the hobbyroom of my Victorian Dollshouse

 that is yet to be completely finished building. 

I was very impressed with some of the ideas for tools etc. in this kit.

Kit Weather

Rain Showers

This past week has been great indoors weather.

I've been busy making-up some miniature kits

for my 1:48 scale Petite Properties, Bay Tree Manor.

This bedroom furniture is from JH's Kits

as well as the easel and chair below.

The Settle and sq.table and chair are JH's Kits.

The other kitchen funiture and the the madeup bed are made out of card

from the instructions in

PP, Making Dolls House Furniture iin 1:48 scale by Fiona Bradwood.

These projects have been great fun and very good projects to have with me to the cabin.

They don't take up much space in luggage.

Time to be thinking of buying

a new raincoat and splasy rubberboots

if this summer weather keeps up.

This house was put together in a group with Torhild Fornes.

There will be 6 finished houses in the end.

Torhild was a very good teacher for the different techniques

I tried a new rusting technique with

Arts & Crafts Roombox

                          

Things are moving forward with
my Arts & Crafts Movement Roombox.
Lets take a peek, but first notice the "Flappy Duck" by the door.

The fireplace I made from Jane Harrop's instructions

I changed out the tiles with copper embossing,

used a metal brad as decor, and Island Lava as coal.

A Work in Progress

This is a roombox that I'm working on for the Craft Retreat in 2013.

We are 25 or so who will be making these roomboxes.

When one is finished with the theme all the boxes  will be decorated for Christmas.

The fireplace & mirror are made from a pattern in Jane Harrop's book " Edwardian Era". The copper work is constructed by using an embossing folder.

The chair, plantstand, revolving book case, library stairs (can't see), floorlamp, hall hat & umbrella stand are made from Jane Harrop's Kits.

Fireshade stand and Victorian kakestand are also made from kits.

I'll come back to this Roombox occationally as the outside and Christmas decorations are finished.

Time for an update..............

                                                   SEAGULL  COTTAGE

My first finished doll'shouse was a kit from "Real Good Toys" and titled "Country Lane". What a job it was to get all the corners as right angles. Now it is more or less finished and standing on our tea-wagon in the corner of our living her in Norway.

The seagull on the attic window sill was made on commission by Odin.

Yesterday's Projects

Fog, fog and more fog.The past few days have reminded me of growing up in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Expressions such as " as thick as soup" and "you can cut it with a knife" were common with foggy days. Well, I started with yesterdays projects so to keep on the track............
2011 Christmas 1:12 scale felt stocking for the fireplace. The fillers are a candy cane made with white papered wire and red thread... plastic coloured pins for lollipops... a folded bookcover... flag... and a twisting bell puppet made with felt,toothpick,wooden bead, felt and seedbeads.

A wardrobe trunk for my Seagull Cottage. This was a DIY kit from Jane Harrop's collection. Memmories rolled in while making this kit. My stepgrandfather gave me his military army wardrobe trunk when I was setting off to college in 1959. Natually I had to repaper it with my colours at the time.
The trunk needs more damage done to it to make look like it has earned the stickers from travels.
I seem to require a photographing box by the looks of the quality of the photos and maybe a photo course. Now that is a good idea for my Christmas Wish.

After the Storm

The storm with high winds has finally died down.

Last evening was our dollshouse group meeting. What fun we had making a French Mirror.

Glue, angle cutter, cardstock,wood,metal ribbon and goldpaint were some of the products we used during the evening.

Each one finished a wall mirror 6.5cm. x 9.2cm.

Just thought I'd post a few of the individual photos I have of the articles in the 1:12 scale Roombox.

The chair was a project we made at Club Night. My theme is Steampunk. Steampunk has fasinated me for at least a year now in several of my hobbies including scrapbooking and altered artwork.

While the chair was a fun project, so were the other things in the room. This tray for instance made of wicker weaving and cardboard. The footstol , flowerbox with white geraniums made from a kit and the lovely chair that was another Club Night project. The deskset is in my shop dollshouse.

A metalwork copper woodbox made with Ten Seconds Studio copper, mould & tools. A bedwarmer made from a button,copper tube and watchparts. These slippers were made on course with Solveig Marie i Aug. 2010. A carry-all purse

Boxes

Endtable is decorated with QK ants and a rub-on "Time" under acryl on the top. The Taco lunch was made by Odin. Fireplace made on course with Torhild. Wall decor made with one of Lynne Perrella's stamps, "Temptress". Flowers made from kits and floor mat DM's stoff cut with a TH's sizzix die cutting machine.

The table made out of cardboard and boughten legs for the Java coffee maker and TH's stasj chain hangings. Teddy is a furry pipecleaner.

My steampunk tophat is my latest addition to the Roombox. It now sits by the teddy on the floor. (not in the original photo)

If you look closer at the Roombox itself you will see chairs made out of Bubbly Drink tops and paper woven baskets.
